BR2-15 Sherlock Holmes: Two Plays

“Yes! How did you know that?” (p.20)

This book has two plays of Sherlock Holmes. I like detective story, so I love Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson’s combination. I think that there in no crime which they can’t find out the answer. The first story of this book is The Red Headed League, which find out John Clay who is a killer and a thief. Next is a story of find out a cheating student. Both of them gave hints which are to be developed later, but I didn’t know who is the criminal. I have read about the author, Arthur Conan Doyle who was one of the most famous writers. I was really surprised at he killed Sherlock Holmes, because he bored the character, but many reader wanted Doyle to write Sherlock Holmes series, so Holmes back to life. I love Holmes, so I am glad to coming back.

BR2-14 Dick Whittington

“Turn again Whittington, thrice mayor of London.” (p.40)

Dick Whittington who is this tale’s hero was a very poor boy, but he was not a lazy boy. I thought that he must be great parson before I finished reading, because I couldn’t find out his parents, but he tried to live himself. Dick was just a boy, but he had great will. Mrs. Curry was not good woman for Dick, but he could meet great people in London. I was really surprised at his acting which sold Tom which his cat and helped him very much. I can’t believe that, but it made good in the end. I thought that Dick did everything for himself, and that made him great, so if I want to be anything, I have to do everything I can do for myself. I was really glad to seeing Dick’s happiness.

BR2-13 Marie Antoinette

“ 'It’s not safe here. You must leave with the children.’ ‘But my place is by your side,’ she replied.” (p.56)

What do you recall when you’re asked about Marie Antoinette? I will recall the famous word which she said ‘Then let them eat cake.’ before, but that was not her word. I was thinking that Marie was a selfish woman and she has wasteful habits, but it was not true. She has wasteful habits little, but it made not France collapse. She was a good mother and loved wife, but there were people who hate her, so her public estimation was bad. She loved her husband, Louis and their children, but her son had dead seven years old. And the Revolution was killed Louis and Marie. I was really sad, because Marie was killed kept the misunderstanding about her life. If she had not misunderstanding, she could live more. I want to be a person who don’t delude rumors and estimations.

BR2-12 Aesop's Fables

“And the moral is … Be happy with what you have.” (p.47)

Everybody knows the stories, Aesop’s Fables all over the world. The stories told us a lot of morals which we have to know. This book which I read has 7 stories, and they taught me what we have to remember in our life. As you know, all of the moral have illustrated by story, so that makes easy to understand. The tortoise and the hare is the most familiar one of Aesop’s fables in Japan, but we don’t know the man who was written them hardly. These stories started telling long time ago, so nobody knows who the first was. However, a man who lived in Greece so long ago, Aesop may write them. Also, no one knows about Aesop, but I think that he must be respect by around his people from at the time.

BR2-11 The Wizard of Oz

“Then she picked up Toto and closed her eyes. ‘East, west ― home’s best,’ she said ― and jumped. (p.40)

This scene is one of the most famous scenes in this story, and the scene has many different ways like she said ‘My home is the best.’ and knocked her heel three times in Japan. I love this scene, because Dorothy could get home finally. She went to Oz which she didn’t know anything in the world suddenly, and she helped her friends. Her friends were Scarecrow which wanted to the brain, Tin Man which wanted to the heart and Cowardly Lion. Dorothy was going to go the Emerald City with them. I really surprised at a rule which everybody who came to the city must put glasses on. That’s funny. I want to be strong like Dorothy, because she confronted hardship with determination. Of course, she was afraid of the things which she has not known ever, and she was just a girl. When I finished reading I really thought that there is no place like home.

BR2-10 The Mummy

“And Imhotep, the man, died. But he said something before he died. He said ‘This is not the end.’ ” (p.35)

This is one of my favorite movies. I can’t remember how many times I watched this movie, so I chose this as my book review. I enjoyed reading this book, because many picture were in the book, so I could remember the scene with the picture. There were a lot of moving mummy in the story, but there are not in the real world. If you watched the moving mummy, can you fight like O’Connell who is the hero of the story? I can’t, because it is too scary for me, but I want to read hieroglyphic like Evelyn who is the heroine in this story. The title of this movie called Hamunaptra in Japan, and the passage was translated ‘the die is just beginning’. And there was the last sentence ‘ Maybe this wasn’t end. Maybe it was the beginning.’ in this book. This ending made me excited.

BR2-9 Jumanji

“Alan ran across the room and threw his arms around his father. ‘Dad! Dad!’ he said happily. ‘I’m sorry.’ ” (p.33)

This passage is in my favorite scene which Alan and Sarah came back to 1969 again, and Alan could say sorry to his father finally. I was always sad to watch the scene which Alan’s father, Sam Parrish had gone and he sacrificed all his money for searching Alan. I was moved, because they had a quarrel when they met the last time, but Sam never gave up to finding his son. I was really glad to watching the scene which they could meet again, and moreover I was glad to saving Judy and Peter’s parents’ life. I think that the game has started in 1969 for saving their life and protecting Judy and Peter’s happiness. Also, I love the last scene which we can’t see the movie, because the scene was not in. Alan and Sarah gave Christmas presents to Judy and Peter, and it was a shoes which named Jumanjis. They didn’t remember about the game and Alan and Sarah, but Alan and Sarah looked them with very happily smile. If I didn’t read the book, I can’t know the last scene, so I was happy.

BR2-8 Puss in Boots

“Your Royal Highness, I have brought you a gift from my master, the Duke of Carabas.” (p.12)

This story is one of fairy tales in Tales of Mother Goose which was written by Charles Perrault, but Puss in Boots has been passed by word of mouth. Puss is a cat which can talk, and he was so clever. His master, Tom who was the youngest of three brothers thought that he was unlucky and he will have to eat Puss for his life when his father died. I think, however, Puss was the best one among his father left them. Puss has known about what he should do for his master’s happiness in the future, and he did everything which he had to do. Puss was not any mistakes, so his master trusted Puss always. When I finished reading this book, I want Puss to help my future, because I will be anything I want if Puss likes me. However, there was not Puss in the real world, so we have to do everything ourselves for our future. I want Tom who is Puss’ master to take care of Puss until he died.

BR2-7 Alice in Wonderland

“Who’s afraid of you? I’m not. You’re only cards!” (p.35)

This story is one of the most famous stories in the world. Everyone have known about a white rabbit which often called Mary Ann, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter who always held the tea party with his friends and the Queen of Hearts. She wants to say anything and everything, “ Cut off the head!!” I have some admirations for the world of dreaming, but I don’t want to go to Alice’s dreaming, because it is too scary for me. However, I want to eat a cake which says EAT ME. I thought that it was different little means I have known the story, but when I finished reading in English, I felt something different. It was good for me to read books in English, and I think if I knew the story before I read in English, I can enjoy my reading in English.

BR2-6 Rapunzel

“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.” (p.23)

Most people have heard this name at least one time, because the story, Rapunzel is famous and became the movie by Disney. Rapunzel means lettuce in Grammar. Mr. Rose who is the father of Rapunzel stole a rapunzel which was a vegetable from a witch’s garden for his wife who is Rapunzel’s mother. The witch who is ugly and ill-natured forgave him, but she demand to give the baby who will be Rapunzel as soon as she is born. I love the last scene in this book. Rapunzel has married Prince Hans, and they have three children which are named Pumpkin, Lettuce and Sprout. I think that it’s nice name, because they will know wherever they go by their name.
I watched the movie which was made by Disney last week, and that was fun. I like it, so I want to watch you!

BR2-5 Rip Van Winkle andTHe Legend of Sleepy Hollow

“He also tells travelers about his twenty- year- long sleep. Some people believe him but some don’t.” (p.33)Rip Van Winkle
“there is a silent valley called Sleepy Hollow. It is the quietest place in the world.” (p.43) The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
This book has two different story, and I read both of them, so I am going to write two book review at once. First, I finished reading Rip Van Winkle. I have heard that story’s name, but I have not read ever. I thought that this is like Urashima Taro. I don’t know which was first. However, I like Rip Van Winkle better than Urashima Taro, because Urashima Taro was end when he came back to real world. The other hand, Rip Van Winkle was written after he came back, and the ending looked so happy, so I like this better than that. I have known Washington Irving who is one of the most famous writers in the world, and I have watched the movie which is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It was little scary for me, but very interesting one, and that is his famous work. Johnny Depp was in the movie as the main character of it, and I have watched it many times include in a class of history of American literature. I didn’t know who is bad and who will survive until the last scene, so I was excited.

BR2-4 Christmas around the world

“ Everyone is fast asleep, waiting for the magic to begin.” (p.5)

This book told me about Christmas in the world. Most Japanese are not Christian, but we cerebrate the day every year. I love Christmas, because I can eat cakes, chickens and more, and moreover we give Christmas presents each other. That is very fun, so I am interested in Christmas. This book’s pictures are very cute and looks fun, so I enjoyed reading the book. I think that it feel strange little for me to come the day which Christmas every country and everyone. Most people cerebrate December 25th in all over the world. I finished reading this book I felt that does Jesus Christ know people love himself in the future? Who was knowing that? People who live in the world have cerebrated Christmas for over 2,000 years. I want everyone to keep this cerebration.

BR2-3 Stories of Haunted Houses

“ “Ghosts!” yelled Claude. “Oh yes!” cried Sue. “Oh no!” screamed the ghosts.”(p.47)

This book has three stories, and there were not bad ghosts. First, chapter 1 was in a castle, Max who was bullied by Nat and Norm Nuckle who were twins. Max met a ghost who was not scary one, but the ghost wanted to be scary, so Max and the ghost tried to scary one. They became good friends. I surprised at that there was not scary ghost in the world, but such a ghost is cute for me. Second ghost was highwayman when he lived, and he hid his bobbed money. Polly is good girl, because she always helped her father. However, the family was poor and losing money every day comes. I want to go money to such a good people, but money always has gone to bad people in the real world. Last ghost were funny group, and they wanted to be famous. I think that if the ghosts in the world were like them, nobody will be scary the ghosts.

BR2-1 The Little Mermaid

“ With tears streaming down her cheeks, the brave little mermaid disappeared into the welcoming waves.” (p.47)

This passage is the last scene which the little mermaid died. The mermaid changed into foams, because she couldn’t be loved a prince who was saved his life by her. The cute girl lost the love which she wanted. I thought that this book’s sentences were very beautiful, so I was fascinated by them. Have you thought that how wonderful the world in the sea? If there was the world which we didn’t know in the sea, do you want to see the world? The little mermaid has many endings. I know that she has to die in real story which written by Andersen, but I love the happy ending, so I want the prince to choose her and get married her. What ending do you like?

BR1-15 Shannon the Ocean Fairy

“ They’ll snap at your ears―and noses, too.” (p.45)

This is my book review, and I read one of the Rainbow magic series. This time, Shannon which is the ocean fairy protected ocean’s safe of fairy’s world and human’s world with Rachel Walker and Kirsty Tate which are human’s girls. Jack Frost and his goblins stole three enchanted pearls. The pink Dawn Pearl lets each morning come, and it affects the levels of water in the oceans, too. The silver Twilight Pearl makes night falls every evening, and the creamy-white Moon Pearl adjusts the size of the waves. The goblins are faster than fairies, because they could breathe in the sea and had dolphin’s leg by Jack Frost. So, girls said threatening remarks sometimes like a quotation. Of course, girls and a fairy could protect the ocean’s safe, and I thought that the girls not just a girl. Also, the fairies really protect our world, because the sun rise everyday and night falls, too. It is very wonder things for me.

BR1-14 Holly the Christmas Fairy

“ My elves have made plenty of extra presents.” (p.143)

I read one of the Rainbow magic series this time, too. Holly is a fairy which is Christmas’ fairy, so she wears red cloth with white far like a Santa Claus. I have seen that girl like Holly in Christmas season. Jack Frost stole Santa’s sleigh and three special gifts, too. If girls couldn’t get back the present from them, Christmas became the worst. I thought that children made sad if there were no presents. I have not given any Christmas’ present, but I never thought that Santa isn’t anywhere. The girls could get back the presents and presents which are deliver for children in the world were made by Santa’s elves. They worked harder, and they are so cute, so I like them.

BR1-13 Trixie the Halloween Fairy

“That’s cool. I want to be Jack Frost next year.” (p.151)

I have read Rainbow magic series which are fairy’s story. This is a story of Halloween’s fairy, her name is Trixie. She wears orange dress, striped tights of orange and black. If heard the word which Halloween, most people imagine that orange pumpkins, a black cat and sweets as treat. I thought that she is just the right girl for the fairy. Trixie makes three kinds of candy which are chocolate bars, candy corn and caramel apples. They make Halloween happy and fun to people who in the world, but they had lost. I have never done any activities about Halloween like trick or treat, but if the sweets which I was given were not taste good, I will be really disappointed. So, when they got back the sweets from goblins, I was relieved. Jack Frost is the role of a villain, but I can’t hate him, because he became a good man at the end.

BR1-12 The Twelve Dancing Princess

"I thought I said one night only!" said the king, but he smiled. (p.47)

There were 12 princesses who were cute and beautiful, but their father, the king was difficult man. Princesses liked to dance, but the king didn't like to dance, so they were not good friends. The king banned to dance for the princesses, but they didn’t keep it. They were dancing all the night where the king didn’t know, so the king couldn’t stop it. I don’t like the princesses, because they were really beautiful, but they didn’t have considerate for people who came to see into princesses’ secret. If princesses had a little considerate for them, they were not killed by the king. The princesses didn’t think other people; they only think dancing to handsome princes.
